Bittersweet

the weekend gone past has provided me an insight to the true meaning of that word..even though it's over I'm not complaining cos I wasn't too particular on this bittersweet business..prefer it one way or the other any day.. to add to that I was actually at work the whole weekend too..yah yah I'm one of those unfortuante souls who has to work during weekends :(

anyways the great sporting weekend didnt start too proimisingly..messed up my knee playing cricket and am immobile these days..apart from the fact that I have to limp off to work due to the lack of holidays that is(mental note: keep sick holidays for days that u actually are sick rather than wasting on days when u r just lazy to go to work) as the football commentators refuse to let us forget Michael Owen who suffered torn ligaments was carried off immediately and flown to consult the world's top doctors while I on the other hand had to drag myself for a good half hour to find a freakin ice pack.. what a difference the ability to kick a ball around makes eh?

come Saturday things were looking decidedly better...altho my knee was still giving me a lot of grief one Amelie Mauresmo managed to give me hope to salvage this weekend.. she won the finals of Wimbledon!! not that in itself was of any significance to me but the last time a French woman came to the wimbledon finals 8 years ago she lost but the football team went on to lift the world cup..so tis only right that the fact that Mauresmo won the Wimbledon, should resign the French footballers to the runners up position this time around..Portugal gave their now customary theatrical performance on the football field but was beaten resoundingly by the Germans and things were shaping up very well...

the much awaited Sunday of Finals revealed no surprises early on with Federer overcoming a spirited challenge by Nadal.. the game was pretty good considering the fact that Federer seems to be just floating thru games without breaking a sweat these days.. on grass atleast... the footy started in such a rush f u left ur seat at the beginning u wud have missed both the goals..as i was at work with a TV iunstalled specially for the summer ryt next to me I had no such probs :) even though France looked to be the more dominant side Italy managed to keep them on level grounds..with the likes of Viera, Ribery and Henry being substituted for one reason or the other, the match f to b decided on penalties, was slowly shifting toward the Italians.. altho ZZ would have been remembered for many of his past exploits on the field with the football he chose to bow out of the game with a headbutt into the chest of Materazzi..altho I must admit, f one absolutely must make an exit on a red card ZZ's choice is definitely the way to earn one..sure he myt have been taunted but for a player of his experience and calibre with the world cup within his grasp that was a disapointing gesture to say the least.. the penalties came and went with the Italians efficiently carrying out their jobs while Trezeguet experienced a yet another emotionally charged match..he scored the golden goal to defeat Italy in Euro 2000 but this time he missed the penalty which lost France the world cup..sport really does seem to be the great leveller!!!!!!!!!
